Puyana Hegedus ISBN 9589671204, published in 1994 by Colciencias, Fundacion Natura, and Ivemar, Santa Fe de Bogata, Colombia, spiral bound with laminated paper covers, pages are about 20.5 by 28 cm., or 8 by 11 inches, contains 291 pages of text, 12 pages of colored photographs, and 73 pages of full-sized plates done with black and white photographs and drawings as well as 18 text-figures The text is in Spanish. This book has always been one that is extremely difficult for us to find. Over the years, I've probably had fewer than 5 copies that I was able to offer. It is an excellent book, but one that never received the circulation that it deserves. It is a very important reference to the mollusks found in the southern Caribbean. The layout of the book is similar to the layout used by E.C. Rios in his books on the shells of Brazil but differs in that it includes the use of color photographs, and uses a much larger format than found in the Brazilian books. It is also spiral bound which I think will hold up better under use. In all 1086 mollusks in all classes are included in this major work. This is a used book and has some wear on the front cover. The name "Colombia" is written on the spiral binding to identify the book in a bookcase, and a few hand-written corrections have been made on the keys to the plates.
